Donation of Books and Didactic Materials to Nchum Primary School
Through the generous support of Nchum elites in the diaspora, a wide range of books and didactic materials have been donated to the primary school. This timely gesture aims to support parents in meeting their children's educational needs during these challenging times of conflict, while also fostering a strong culture of reading and learning in the community.
Computers Donated to Enhance Digital Learning
Thanks to the generous contributions of Nchum sons and daughters in the diaspora, computers have been donated to the Nchum Primary School to promote digital literacy and modern education. This initiative marks a significant milestone, positioning Nchum as one of the first, if not the very first school in the region to introduce computer acquaintance at the most basic level.
By engaging children with computers from an early age, we are equipping them with essential digital skills that are now a fundamental part of education and everyday life. This forward-thinking project opens new doors for our pupils and ensures they are not left behind in today’s fast-evolving digital world. It is a proud step toward preparing our children for a brighter, tech-driven future.
As our community grows and the village expands, several foundational projects have been completed or developed to a stage where they are actively serving the people, while still being expanded to meet increasing needs as the population increases by the day.
1. Water Project
Our journey began in the late 1980s with the launch of the first water project, which marked a major milestone in improving public health. For the first time, residents of our community enjoyed access to clean, piped water. The excitement was enormous and palpable, children eagerly filled containers not only to help their families but also because of the joy the activity brought to them. Over time, individuals who could afford it extended the water supply to their homes, enhancing convenience and privacy. This access to reliable water has not only improved health outcomes but also supported other development efforts, including construction and agriculture.
2. Road Network
Initially, apart from the national road that runs about 2 kilometers through Nchum, movement within the community was limited to footpaths used to access farms and neighboring areas. Thanks to the support of the Village Community Project (VCP), a motorable road was constructed across the village, greatly improving mobility. In the years that followed, NDA worked to develop additional roads; however, many remained inaccessible to vehicles due to the lack of bridges and in the years, grew back to footpaths. Local wooden footbridges only supported pedestrian traffic. Currently, NDA is dedicated to building durable bridges to open these roads to vehicles, paving the way for expanded movement, easier access, and new housing developments.
