Who We Are

We, the mighty Dreamweaver’s at NCHUM DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION GLOBAL, embark on an audacious adventure to weave the threads of progress and elevate Nchum into a bustling metropolis that's nothing short of fantastical.

The History and Evolution of NDA: A Legacy of Service and Development

The Nchum Development Association (NDA) was founded in the early 1980s, marking the dawn of organized community-driven development efforts in Nchum. At the helm of this visionary initiative was Pa Tancho David Neba, who served as the pioneer president. It was during his tenure that the seeds of self-reliant development were first planted into the minds of the people, sparking a collective awakening to the power of unity and purposeful action.

One of the most groundbreaking projects undertaken during this foundational era was the joint water project involving the communities of Nchum, Manji, and Mbebali. This ambitious collaboration culminated in the successful installation of pipe-borne water—a historic first for the Nchum people. For the first time, clean and safe drinking water flowed directly into the community, significantly improving health and quality of life. The VCP (village community project) headed by Mr Tancho Jackson was very instrumental with assistance.

Following Pa Tancho's pioneering leadership, a series of dedicated and visionary leaders took up the mantle of NDA leadership, each building upon the achievements of their predecessors. These leaders include:

  • Mr. Ambe Christopher Ngwa

  • Mr. Nkwah Joseph Ambe

  • Mr. Tancho Samuel Ngwa

  • Mr. Tikum Emmanuel Ambe

  • Mrs. Siona Wanchia

  • Tah Ngoh Ngwatancho (current global president)

Each of these individuals, in their time and capacity, contributed meaningfully to the continued progress of the Nchum community, overseeing numerous development projects that have had lasting impacts on the social and economic well-being of the people.

However, the story of Nchum’s development cannot be fully told without acknowledging the invaluable contributions of Nchum elites, many of whom have never held the formal title of president but have continuously acted as champions of progress. These individuals have, in every sense, been “presidents at all times,” tirelessly working behind the scenes to mobilize resources, establish vital connections, and drive development initiatives forward.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude especially to those who made strategic breakthroughs that led to major projects in Nchum. For instance, the water project, the electricity and establishment of schools in the village were made possible largely through the relentless efforts of Mr Tancho Jackson, Dr. Awanchiri Simon, Mrs. Jane Mforteh, and other influential Nchum elites based most especially in Yaounde. Their close collaboration with the then-president Mr. Nkwah Joseph Ambe ensured the success of these critical ventures, setting the pace of making Nchum a City.

On the front of youth mobilization, Tah Ngoh Ngwatancho, (the current global president), donated a community trophy that became a central feature of youth engagement in Nchum. For over 17 years, this trophy competition not only promoted football during the holidays but also fostered a spirit of unity, discipline, and communal service among the youth. During this period, young people were actively involved not just in sports but also in essential community work, contributing manpower to projects and village clean-up campaigns, thereby reinforcing the development goals of NDA.

Even amidst challenges such as the recent armed conflict, the legacy of community-led development remains alive and strong in Nchum, a testament to the foundation laid by our forebears and the ongoing dedication of our leaders and people. The NDA continues to stand as a symbol of what can be achieved when a community comes together with vision, purpose, and resilience.

Take a minute to write an introduction that is short, sweet, and to the point.

The Emergence of the Present NDA Global Executive

The tenure of Mrs. Siona Wanchia as president of NDA witnessed unprecedented challenges, primarily due to the outbreak of the armed conflict in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon. The deteriorating security situation severely disrupted community activities, and consequently, the affairs of the Nchum Development Association (NDA) came to an almost complete standstill. For several years, organized development efforts were paralyzed, leaving a void at a time when the community was in dire need of leadership, direction, and support.

Amidst this uncertainty, hope was rekindled in 2020, when a group of eight determined and visionary elites in the diaspora convened with a singular objective: to revive the NDA and relaunch development initiatives. Recognizing that the people of Nchum, both at home and abroad, were yearning for coordinated action, this group took bold steps to restore the association’s momentum. Their initiative marked a turning point in the history of NDA, and a new spirit of commitment and unity began to take shape.

Building on this momentum, in 2021, a new executive team was constituted under the leadership of Tah Ngoh Ngwatancho, who was unanimously selected to serve a three-year term as Global President. This new leadership marked a historic shift in structure, operation, and scope of the association. For the first time in NDA’s history, the executive elections were conducted online through a professional election software platform, embracing digital tools to ensure transparency, accessibility, and global participation.

This bold innovation brought forth the era of globalization of NDA’s management (NDA Global), as members of the new executive team came from different corners of the world. What followed was a massive mobilization of the Nchum people, both at home and abroad, culminating in renewed enthusiasm, increased participation, and a shared vision for the development of the village.

Under the leadership of  Tah Ngoh Ngwatancho and his Exco, the NDA Global Exco set forth with purpose, initiating and completing a number of impactful projects aimed at improving living standards in Nchum. These projects addressed key sectors such as water, electricity, education, community unity, and cultural revival. The executive also took deliberate steps to rebuild relationships, and bring back a sense of belonging among the people.

As the initial three-year term came to an end in 2024 elections were again organized. This electoral process resulted in a few changes to the composition of the executive, allowing for renewal of leadership, the injection of fresh ideas, and the continuation of ongoing initiatives.

Today, the NDA Global Executive stands as a beacon of unity, innovation, and development action. It reflects the collective will of the Nchum people to rise above adversity and shape their own future, with leadership that is inclusive, accountable, and deeply committed to sustainable development.
