DIASPORA EIGHT

The Diaspora Eight: Rekindling the Flame of NDA

In the midst of the crisis that paralyzed many community structures across Anglophone Cameroon, the Nchum Development Association (NDA) had all but collapsed. With the worsening armed conflict, local operations became nearly impossible, communication disintegrated, and the vision of collective development began to fade and eventually came to standstill

But when the homeland stood still, the diaspora stood up.

In 2020, seven determined sons and daughters of Nchum living in the diaspora came together with one mission — to revive the spirit of unity and development that NDA once championed and to ameliorate the fast deteriorating situation back at home. These individuals:

Tah Ngoh Ngwatancho, Ngoh Comfort, Atoh Fred, Mankaa Success, Muma Gilbert, Nkwenti Gladys, Tikum George, Nfoneh Gideon, convened a pivotal meeting that became the turning point in the history of NDA.

Feeling the weight and a deep sense of responsibility, this group strategized on how to reorganize the association, reconnect scattered members, and reestablish functionality and trust in the Association. Their efforts led to the successful election of a new NDA Global Executive committee and set the wheels of progress back in motion.

Thanks to their vision and initiative:

  • NDA is now back on its feet and as well, globally, with a dynamic structure that spans continents.

  • The association resumed community projects, education support, humanitarian support, and development initiatives are moving even faster than when there was no armed conflict.

  • NDA branches in Cameroon and abroad are now actively participating in shaping the future of Nchum.

This website stands as a symbol of that rebirth, made possible by the courage and foresight of these eight individuals. Their actions remind us that even in the darkest times, a spark of unity can light the path and encourage all to move forward.
